This is one of
the traditional ways to fish. What Marcel is using is called Dipnet or swingnet. It is used by
dipping it in to the river and following the current. The area where he is fishing
is at Scet̓ 'Six mile Bridge River', just below the first fish ladder.
"Since time immemorial the St̓át̓imc have occupied a traditional territory of some 11,000
square miles in the interior of BC extending from Pavilion in the north to Port
Douglas in the south, from the Coast Mountains to the Fraser River at Lillooet."
We are also historicaly/mistakenly known as the "Lillooet Tribe". Our language is part of the Interior
Salish Language Family.
In recent history the traditional culture of the St̓át̓imc has faced great challenges. As
testament to the strength of St̓át̓imc Culture and our people, our culture survived these challenges
and a renewal of our rich language and heritage is well underway.
